More than 220 budding scientists and engineers from across the Commonwealth of Virginia presented their projects the 2024 Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair (VSSEF) showcasing their aptitude in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Alumnus Lieutenant Commander John Kidd serves as Executive Officer on the National Ocean Atmospheric Association Corps (NOAA Corps) Pisces ship. In 2010, he earned a Bachelor of Sciences degree from С»ÆƬÊÓƵ’s Department of Ocean & Earth Sciences. LCDR Kidd’s life changed after he toured a NOAA Corps ship and recently, he paid it forward by inviting some OES С»ÆƬÊÓƵ students onto the ship where he is second in command.
At Teens with a Purpose, located in Downtown Norfolk, Horth introduced staff and teenagers to gardening and some new technological ways to plant more produce thanks to a science grant from NASA or Virginia Space Grant Consortium.
On Tuesday, Oct. 3 the College of Sciences held the second annual Environmental Career Fair. С»ÆƬÊÓƵ undergraduate students majoring in Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Ocean & Earth Sciences were encouraged to attend and make meaningful connections with industry professionals.
