This semester is going to look a bit different than previous ones. Here's what to expect from the ITS Help Desk and support personnel as campus reopens.

Technology Support at the ITS Help Desk

The ITS Help Desk remains your first point of contact for any and all technology issues on campus. We continue to offer 24-hour phone and email support and stand ready to answer all of your questions.

Technology support will be conducted as much as possible using virtual and remote methods. We'll do our best to troubleshoot and resolve issues over the phone, by email or online. Whenever necessary, in-person support will be limited and by appointment only.

TSP Support

Contact the ITS Help Desk first if you have any issues with the computer or technology resources you use at work. We'll try to help remotely, and if we need to, we'll schedule an appointment to come take a look at your equipment. If we do visit in-person, our technicians will wear face coverings and gloves, and will do their best to maintain an appropriate safe distance.

We can also make arrangements for you to drop off and pick up your computer in a contactless manner if necessary.

Software installations will be done remotely.

Student Move-In

As you move in, you can call or email the ITS Help Desk any time for help connecting computers or devices to any of our networks, or for help with any technology in the residence halls.

Classroom Technology

Hotline phones in classrooms ring directly to the ITS Help Desk if you run into technology issues during class. If a problem can't be solved over the phone, Classroom Central staff will be dispatched. Technicians will wear face coverings and do their best to maintain a safe physical distance.

Desktop computer keyboards are covered for easier sanitation between instructors. Cleaning supplies are located in each classroom.

Extended Classrooms

We've been busy over the summer upgrading classrooms to support extended learning. Technology classrooms can now accommodate live in-person and online course delivery simultaneously, and lectures can be recorded and made available through Blackboard. We have more than 70 Zoom-integrated classrooms with built-in equipment capable of broadcasting, recording and distributing class lectures at the press of a button. Several additional Zoom-enabled classrooms have flexible equipment with similar capabilities.

Whether your students attend class live in the classroom or over Zoom, the technology allows you all to engage and interact seamlessly. Learn more about extended classrooms and their capabilities to stream and record lectures.

Computer Labs

Computer labs will operate at a lower density, and selected computers within labs will be closed to promote physical distancing. Help Desk technicians are available by phone or email to help troubleshoot technology issues that arise. Call (757) 683-3192 or email itshelp@odu.edu.

Virtual lab computers — equipped with the same software and settings as those in our computer labs — are available from any internet-connected device at . Learn more about the Monarch Virtual Environment.
